What is the digital switch over?
By the year 2012 analogue TV signals in the United Kingdom will be switched off and we will all be receiving digital signals. These signals can be received through a set-top box or a TV with a built-in digital receiver.
When does it happen?
The digital switch over will be complete at some point in 2012, however the switchover is taking place gradually so it depends what region you are in. Cumbria made the change in 2007 and 2008 is the turn of the Border regions.

Do I need a new television?
No, whether you have an LCD, a Plasma or a CRT it will work. You will need a set-top box though if your television does not have one built in.
Remember, if your existing television is a CRT you will not be able to take advantage of the fantastic high definition resolutions on offer.
Will I still need to pay for my TV licence?
Unfortunately yes. The BBC is funded by TV licenses, and the switch over has no affect on this.
